Homemade Marinara Sauce
Directions
Prepare a large bowl of ice water, set aside. Fill a large pot with a few inches of water and heat on medium-high to boil water. Meanwhile, cut off any bad spots of tomatoes and take out stems. Once your water starts to boil, carefully drop a few tomatoes at a time into the water. Boil about 1 minute, or until tomato skin starts to “wrinkle” and pull away from the tomato. Once tomatoes are cool enough to work with, remove skins. The skins should pretty much fall off. Heat olive oil in large pot over medium heat. Add onions, sauté a few minutes until tender. Add garlic and spices, sauté another couple minutes. Add red wine vinegar, sauté another couple minutes. Add tomatoes and pepper; stir to crush tomatoes and combine. Once sauce begins to boil, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer uncovered 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. Notes: *These are the spices I had available and seems like “Italian spices” to me. But I’m a fan of experimenting with spices so if you have something else throw it in and see how you like the flavor. Servings: 6-8 Prep and Cooking Time: 50 minutes prep; 2-3 hours simmer |
